CityU MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FESTIVAL 2015
The “Mobile Technology Festival 2015” was held during 12-21 January 2015 at the City University of Hong Kong. Presented by CityU Apps Lab, it is the first ever university-wide festival specifically on mobile technology, aiming at introducing how mobile technology affects our lives, and to showcase students’ innovative works making use of latest technologies.
Moreover, a series of mobile-related seminars will be held covering mobile payment, e-Health, e-learning and more. A number of ICT companies are also invited to recruit young talents to join the industry in our 2-day Recruitment Fair. Other events include private coaching services for students who have startup ideas as well as idea sharing by encouraging startup teams from CityU.

GRAND OPENING
A Grand Opening for the Mobile Technology Festival will be held on 13 January 2015.
For this first ever university-wide festival specially on mobile technology, we are very pleased to name
- Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, BBS, JP, Deputy to the 12th National People’s Congress of PRC, Council Chairman of CityU; and
- Miss Joey Lam, JP, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Policy & Community) of HKSAR Government; and
- The Hon Charles Mok, JP, Legislative Councilor representing the Information Technology; and
- The Hon Michael Tien Puk-sun, BBS, JP, Legislative Councilor, HK Deputy to the National People’s Congress of PRC, and Deputy Chairman of New People’s Party
as the officiating guests for the opening ceremony.
To celebrate and appreciate our students’ innovative contribution to mobile technology, the selected students’ works will be showcased as highlights during the Grand Opening.

The Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) Scheme is a seed fund set up to encourage innovation and creativity by sponsoring high potential creative and innovative start-up projects or business concepts in ICT-related areas. Speaker: Mr. Emil Chan, CEO of Firmus Asia Company Limited, and Former Regional Head of IT, Bayern LB
Speaker’s biography: With over 20 years’ experience on IT and back-office operations of foreign banks in Hong Kong, Emil managed and coordinated IT and back office operations of leading international banks like Bayerische Landesbank, Credit Suisse, Banca Commerciale Italiana, Republic National Bank of New York and Bayerische Vereinsbank. Emil is the founder and CEO of Firmus Asia Co. Ltd., an eBusiness consulting firm and a part time lecturer of the Hong Kong University SPACE, Institute of China Business teaching postgraduate programs in emerging technology and eBusiness in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen from time to time. He is also a certified trainer on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and also a member of the ISACA with a certificate of CISA. Emil is the Chairman of the Hong Kong IBM User Group, a non-profit-making organization for the IBM users in Hong Kong to do networking and idea exchanges and council member of Internet Professional Association.

Speaker: Mr. Joe Wong, COO of Sengital Ltd.
Speaker’s biography: Mr. Joe Wong joined Sengital since company startup in 2004. He developed many motion sensing applications and solutions during his B.Eng study and won many local and International academic contests and published many academic papers. He was very active in the R&D team of Sengital and he started to handle R&D and project management management since 2006. With his innovative ideas and strong technical background, he trained up the R&D team to achieve many project goals.

Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU) is a new funding scheme launched by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) to encourage students, professors and alumni of six local universities to start up technology businesses and commercialize their R&D results. The CityU recipients 2014 would like to share their business ideas and give tips to students who may also want to start a business.

2:30 p.m. - Opening of Innovation Commons
The Opening of ‘Innovation Commons’ will be held on 14 Jan 2015 (2:30-3pm). With the joint contributions from the Library, KTO, School of Law and EDGE, the ‘Innovation Commons’ has been established for students’ creative minds to come together, to brainstorm or to cross-cultivate ideas. It aims at:
- Facilitating idea exchange between students from different disciplines in order to promote synergetic innovation
- Motivating and supporting students to create and formulate innovative ideas
- Educating students about Intellectual Property (IP)
- Nurturing student ideas to mature IP and seek appropriate way to protect it
- Promoting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial spirit

“Making innovation in education a success”

Speakers: Mr. Victor Cheng, CEO of Hong Kong Education City (HKedCity), and Former Director of Corporate Services of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessments Authority (HKEAA)
Speaker’s biography: Mr. Cheng is a seasoned IT professional in Hong Kong. He has more than 20 years of experience in IT infrastructure and the application of IT in education. He has been the Director of IT Services of the Hong Kong Institute of Education for more than 10 years and has led a number of important projects such as developing the first self-learning IT Competency Program for teachers, introducing the online Learning Management System, and initiated the Learning Commons project to facilitate migrating teaching and learning from traditional classrooms to an integrated mobile learning environment. Mr. Cheng has a Master of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Speaker: Samuel Bourque, Co-Founder of CryptoLaw
Speaker’s biography: Canadian-born long-time software engineer, who has work experience in technology, financial and legal industries in Canada, Japan and Hong Kong. He is also a published legal scholar, writing on topics such as Bitcoin, Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts. He has recently co-founded CryptoLaw, which is trailblazing the introduction of Smart Contracts as a legally-binding cost-cutting business tool.
COACHING FOR TECHNOLOGY START-UPS
Professions are invited from Innovation & Entrepreneurship Club of Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS) to provide private coaching session for potential technology start-up projects. Each team of participants can enjoy a 30-min session of professional coaching to be inspired about their idea and business plan.

Speaker’s Biography: Daniel is based in Hong Kong and helps companies in Asia like PCCW, HSBC, CSL, China Light & Power, Sunday, Cathay Pacific, Marriott, ADB, and Yahoo! China make their products easier to use. He has also worked with Telstra Australia and IBM. Daniel has spoken on Usability in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, United States, and Australia, helping to develop new groups of interest in the region. He recently co-wrote and released the Usability Kit with Gerry Gaffney. Daniel is a founding member and President of the UPA China Hong Kong Branch, co-founder of the UPA China User Friendly conferences, and holds a BS in Information Management from Melbourne University Australia.
