A big group of students joined CAL’s visit to 9Gag Headquarter in Hong Kong on July 25th 2015 (Saturday), led by Dr Ray Cheung, CAL Director, and Mr. David Ai, CityU Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO). Mr. Ray Chan, CEO and Co-Founder of 9GAG , the leading social entertainment platform for humor content, gave a sharing to the students during the company visit.
“We were crazy, but not crazy enough to think it would grow this big, ”said Ray. “I contributed to 9GAG by leading core mission of 9GAG and connecting other co-founders together, and I enjoy it. ”
“For any of you who want to be entrepreneurs, it is always better to first work in an early-stage startup company like 9GAG, instead of really kicking off a startup, ” advised Ray. “In an early-stage startup company, you would really have the chance to learn how to develop the company in a great extend. ” More importantly, Ray advised we should work hard but work smart.
“I am very impressed that Ray changed the career path from Legal Studies to 9GAG, ” One of the CityU students from School of Law pointed out. Ray is a graduate of the Faculty of Law in The University of Hong Kong, but he chose to start 9GAG, rather than being a lawyer.
At the end, Ray also recommended a few books including “It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be”, “Steal Like an Artist”, and “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.
