Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals and teams. In each 3-day “Startup Weekend”, participants can meet like-minded peers to take their startup ideas to the next level. They will be pitching, validating, and prototyping their ideas all within 54 hours.

In the Startup Weekend HKU” (SWHK) in October 2015, the Overall Winner went to ShopIG. The team of three at ShopIG include Nelson Yau and Jason Liu, both CityU students and CAL members, and Louis, a HKU graduate. They presented a solution to leverage e-commerce potential of Instagram with one-stop platform and shared customer scheme.
“Though Instagram shops are popular among locals, the app itself limits its own ecommerce capabilities since no hyperlinks are allowed in posts for further information or purchase,” explained by Nelson, one of the technical co-founders. This is why they come up with the idea of feeding Instagram content onto “ShopIG”, their own e-commerce platform.
